Indian Classical Music and Vocals presentation

Manvikas school organized an Indian Classical Music and Vocal presentation by the artists from Spic Macay on 7th February 2020 from 10:30am to 11:30am in the Multipurpose Hall.

The students having a musical background from across the classes 5th to 7th   formed the audience. Our young budding musical artists witnessed an marvelous performance and were enchanted by the performing vocalist who sang “Raga Bairagi” to a melodious tune.

The artists present on stage were Pt. Jayteerth Mevundiji as the vocalist; Pt. Satish Kolli on harmonium and Pt. Jagdeesh Kurtakoti on tabla. The students witnessed the magical performance by the maestros on these two instruments.

The artists were given a warm welcome and were felicitated with a pot of flowers and a shawl by the administrator, the officiating principal and the Indian Classical Music teacher. The students were briefly informed on what ‘Indian Classical Music’ is all about, its origin; its gradual development; the instruments and renowned artists associated with it over the years.

This was followed by Ms. Sonia Sirsat’s address to the students on the functioning of Spic Macay and its association with artists from across the country who aims at conserving and promoting our country’s rich and diverse culture amongst the young students in schools focusing on the classical arts. This enables students to have a feel of the age-old guru-shishya tradition.

The artists were given a formal introduction by our student and on a resounding note the performance of Indian Classical Music and Vocal began. The ‘morning raga’ was sung with utmost beauty with made the pleasant morning even more charming. The enchanting performance was followed by a Question and Answer session wherein the students and teachers asked questions pertaining to the music played, the raga and tala sung and encouraging students on taking up Indian Classical Music as a profession. The students were enriched interacting with the artists.

As the curtain drew close to the mesmerizing “Indian Classical Music and Vocals” performance, the students left with content and pleased for having being a part of the much awaited event.
