A REPORT ON INTERNATIONAL YOGA DAY

CELEBRATION

International Yoga Day is observed every year on 21st June 2023, in order to raise awareness about this ancient vedic practice and to celebrate the physical and spiritual prowess that yoga has brought to the world. Yoga is a physical, mental and spiritual practice instrumental in relaxing the mind, body and boosting immune system.

Manovikas English Medium school celebrated the International Yoga Day on June 21st, 2023, in the school multipurpose hall with great delight. Director of our school Mrs. Maya Lin Noronha and Principal (Middle, High School and Higher Secondary School) Mrs. Maria Norman, Principal (Primary School) Mrs Pallavi Buyao, Principal ( Pre-Primary school) Mrs. Brenda Bhandari graced this special occasion with their presence. The session was hosted by:

Senior Head Boy Shrey Borkar (XII Commerce) and
Senior Head girl of our school Kiara Dias (XII Humanities).

Sharanya Poojari (Class VI), Shriya Solienkar (class VIII), Xanelle Lacerda (Class IX), Anaisha Goyal (Class V) gracefully demonstrated all the asanas, that added a luster to the celebration.

Programme commenced with a prayer followed

by lighting of the lamp and a speech on Yoga by

Sancia Prabhakaran (Class X Arjun House Captain).

Students of class five demonstrated various asanas, that every student must practice on daily basis for better quality of life. Sir Anoop Vernekar, narrated the significance and benefits of the asanas simultaneously.

The mesmerizing yoga act involving smooth transition between asanas, which is a contemporary practice, choreographed by Sir Ashish, stole the show.

Sir Anoop Vernekar demonstrated some simple and beginner, standing and sitting asanas (Assisted by few Gymnastic Students )that were performed by the students.

The benefits of the postures were narrated by the teacher as the students performed. All the students participated enthusiastically in today’s

celebration. The asanas performed by the students are enlisted below:

• Surya Namaskar or Sun Salutation Pose
• Bhujangasana Or Cobra Stretch Pose
• Padmasana or Lotus Position Pose Tadasana or Mountain Pose
• Trikonasnaa or triangle pose
• Paschimottanasana or Seated forward bend
• Setu Bandha or bridge pose

The celebration concluded on a sweet note, demonstrating some breathing techniques and encouraging the students to practice yoga regularly to remain fit, as they
showcased a very energetic and spirited performance.

In conclusion, Yoga Day is a universal event that celebrates the practice of yoga, an ancient tradition that gained immense popularity across the globe.
